Episode 1241 – Why Working Less Made This Cleaning Business More Profitable

The Big Goal: $10K Profit in 10 Hours

This episode is a replay of one of the best and most-loved podcasts from Grow My Cleaning Company. Mike Campion sat down with Spencer Ward, a long-time client and successful cleaning business owner, to discuss a challenge many entrepreneurs face—how to hit $10,000 in profit while working only 10 hours a week. Spencer started out like most business owners, grinding away and focusing too much on top-line revenue instead of actual profit. Over time, he realized that without a solid profit margin, all the hard work didn’t mean much.

The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything

At first, Spencer believed he had to be involved in every part of his business. He thought no one else could do payroll, scheduling, or even cleaning as well as he could. But once he started delegating tasks and training his team, he saw a major shift. He realized that building a strong, reliable team allowed him to step back from daily operations without sacrificing quality. This gave him the freedom to focus on growing the business rather than just running it.

Hiring the Right People

One of the biggest changes Spencer made was hiring employees who matched his company’s core values. In the past, he hired people who weren’t a great fit and found himself micromanaging. Once he focused on hiring the right people, everything became easier. These employees could make decisions on their own, which allowed Spencer to truly work on his business instead of in it.

Getting Over the Fear of Raising Prices

Spencer also admitted that for a long time, he was afraid to raise his prices. But once he made the leap, he saw that clients who truly valued his service were willing to pay. Raising his rates, while also cutting unnecessary costs, allowed him to finally reach the level of profit he had been working toward.

The Freedom to Choose

Now, Spencer works less than 10 hours a week in his business, sometimes as little as two hours a month. He spends more time with his family, travels when he wants, and no longer worries about his company running without him. His biggest advice to other business owners? Focus on profit, hire the right people, and let go of the mindset that you have to do everything yourself. Once you do that, real freedom begins.
