Episode 761 – Why Focus, Mindset and Commitment Are Powerhouse Skills

Hello, Cleaning Nation! Today on the podcast, we have Quentin Rankin chatting with our amazing in-house mindset coach Tracey Thompson. Quentin started Swept Cleaning in April 2018 in Washington D.C. He focuses on residential cleaning, and we are so happy to have him here today with us! Listen in as they chat about how he started his company, where he was, why he decided to take things to the next level, and where he is now. These episodes are always helpful and encouraging to see how much progress you can see in just a few months if you have the right systems, processes, and mindset.

You Don’t Always Have to be In Trouble to Start Looking for Change

In Quentin’s case, he didn’t want until his business was on fire or really struggling to start looking for help. He has always had the belief that it benefits him to look outside himself for business and personal coaching. So when he heard about Mike and his cleaning program, that really resonated with him and he decided to join. At the time, he was seeing some steady growth and was bringing in about $10,000 a month even though he didn’t have a team yet.

Focus Allows Your to Target Your Customer More Effectively

When Quentin first started out, he would clean anything if people gave him money. Residential, commercial, one-time move-in move-outs, whatever came his way. When he started focusing on what he enjoyed and where the momentum was (in his case residential weekly and bi-weekly cleans) he was able to get rid of all the extra that just added stress and instability and focus on growing his business without all the volatility of being all over the map.

Stop Thinking for Your Client

Quentin has made a lot of mental shifts during his time as a member of The Clean Profit Method, but one of the biggest shifts has been to stop thinking for the client. For him, the shift focused specifically on the misconception that if he raised his prices, he would lose good clients. Instead, he has been able to hire better, more stable clients and really niche and find out exactly the kind of clients that work best for him, and provide them with excellent service. When he got out of their mind and just focused on providing the best service possible at a price point that felt fair to him, he was able to steadily grow taking on the people he wanted to take on.

Advice from Quentin

For Quentin, it’s hard to choose just one piece of advice to share because he’s learned a lot, but for him, the most important would be to commit. If you tell yourself you are going to do something, do it. Be 100% in. So often we are just hearers and not doers. When we decide something needs to get done, just do it all the way. No procrastination, no excuses- just work.

Final Takeaway: Stay focused, stay out of your client’s head, and commit to what you say you’ll do.
