Episode 356 – Using Cold Calling to Grow Your Business

Today’s guest is Carl from Empire Maintenance Services!

Carl is wondering, is cold calling is relevant to today’s cleaning market and if it would be a good strategy to grow his cleaning company?

The short answer is, yes cold calling works and it can help you grow your cleaning company. In my opinion, it isn’t always the most scalable strategy.

To start your cleaning company and get your first ten clients, I highly recommend cold calling. This is a great way to get your company off the ground, but it’s not the best way to maintain that growth. For example, cold calling is like paid online traffic. As great as an SEO strategy is in the first few months of your business, it’s important to transition out of it. While you are creating the automatic systems, you can use cold calling or paid traffic to get customers through the door.

The end goal is to create systems and funnels that bring clients to you, instead of always having to find the clients. I talk about these systems extensively in the Clean Profit Method.

Clean Profit Method

While trying to price for cold calling and SEO, most cleaning company owners try to spend as little money as possible. This is why I stress that this isn’t a scaleable marketing strategy. Instead, spend 5-10% of your budget towards marketing expenses. I know this can sound like a lot, but your competition is going to be putting 1-2% into their marketing budget. This automatically puts you ahead of your competition.

To further help your marketing strategy, it’s important to make sure that you have the name of your niche in your company’s name. For example, you can immediately tell who I help by looking at the name of this podcast. Your strategy is to make your company all about your customers.
