Episode 802 –Time and Money- How to Spend Both Well

Hi Cleaning Nation! Welcome to the podcast. Today, we have Mike chatting with Samantha Ciriaco. Samantha started Minute Maids is March of 2019 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Today, she and Mike are chatting about how to deal with losing, how to attract the right kind of clients, and how to grow your business incrementally by adding new clients.

Don’t Be Afraid to Go Back to Past Clients

Samantha asks Mike if it’s a good idea to go back to her past clients she lost in the transition. There is often an element of fear involved in this option thinking they’ll say no or that it will be embarrassing. But the truth is all they can say is no… or they could say YES! It’s definitely low hanging fruit so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t take advantage of it! Go back, explain how things were before and how things have changed now. Offer then a free clean, or something to give you a chance to earn their trust back. It doesn’t hurt.

How Much Money is Too Much to Spend on Advertising?

Often, when we’re describing a problem, we’ll tell ourselves two truths and a lie. In this case it might be, I spent a bunch of money on Google ads (truth), it didn’t work (truth) so I should never do advertising again because it will never work for me (lie). The truth is, if you were doing advertising right, it wouldn’t make sense to stop doing it. Not only that, but if you are spending your advertising money right and getting a good return on your investment, it also wouldn’t matter how high your budget was because you would be making yourself more money that you were spending so it would be a moot point.

Time or Money- You Decide

At the end of it all, every decision you make for your business will come down to time or money. If you don’t have the money to hire someone out for a skill that you don’t have, you’ll make up for it in the time that you use to learn the skill yourself. If you don’t have the time, it makes sense to hire someone to give you more time and take care of the things you don’t have the skillset to do. But there is never an option that won’t take one of those two precious commodities. When you are first starting out and don’t have a lot of money, a great option is to hire someone who will teach YOU the skill you are hiring them for. Then, you can do it yourself without having to pay someone else and it’s something you’ll know how to do forever.

Final Take away: When making decision for your business, weigh your time vs your money and see which commodity you have more of and make the decision accordingly.
