Episode 846 – The Importance of Being Decision and Doing Hard Things: Episode 846

Today on the podcast, we have Mike chatting with Melanie Servia who started Partners in Grime in May of 2021 in Appleton, Wisconsin. She hasn’t had anything handed to her and has had to work really hard for everything she’s gotten. She’s a great reminder that circumstances don’t dictate where you can get in life but the decisions you make do. Listen in to see how making the decision to take action now has made all the difference for her.

Stop Commiserating, Start Taking Action

For Mike, something he sees repeatedly is people in a lot of pain (metaphorically in their business) who come to him for answers and then decide not to take the action he offers them. They say things like, I need to think about it more, I need to research more, but all they are really doing is making a lot of excuses about why they can’t take any real action to change their situation.

Melanie’s Biggest Hurtle When She Came to Us

Each person comes into the program with individual problems. For Melanie, it was the fact that her cleaning team of two at the time were moving states and she had to figure out how she was going to replace them. Luckily, she was able to set up a hiring funnel and group interview and start to find people based on the core values she is looking for so that she can build a solid team. Her interviews are going well because people can tell that she is showing up authentically and trying to build a positive team culture and environment.

Ask the Right Question to Get You Where You Want to Go

As Melanie has gone through the program, she has been unapologetically herself. She is only 21 years old, which could be a great excuse for why it felt too intimidating to hire people older than her, run her own business, etc., but she has continued to show up as herself and that has benefitted her in so many ways. The second thing she has done is ask really effective questions. The first is by reaching out to people who know more than her and asking how she should be doing certain things. And the second, more valuable question she is asking is, what should I be doing right NOW that would be most effective?

Final Takeaway: Don’t be afraid to be decisive and ask hard questions. It is how you move forward instead of staying stuck in your current problems.
