Episode 767 – What Do I Do First to Get Out of Cleaning?

Welcome to the podcast Cleaning Nation! Today on the podcast, we have Mike with Mandy Pote. Mandy started TruShine Cleaning in 2016 in Lower Bucks County Pennsylvania. Mandy has been a solo cleaner through these years and she is ready to grow her business beyond herself. Her issue is that she doesn’t know if she should start by hiring more employees or by getting more customers. Listen in as Mike coaches her through the process and how best to move forward to the next level in her business.

What is Cleaning Costing You?

Before you can really answer that, you have to get clear on what it’s really costing you to stay in cleaning. For Mandy, she is a 28-year-old woman who is tired all the time and doesn’t have time to do anything else. She is ready to have a life and be able to have some time for herself. If you have a family, you’d ask yourself what is it costing my family for me to work these insane hours and not make a whole lot of money. These are the things you have to be really clear about to have the motivation to be able to push yourself out of your comfort zone and start step one of getting out of cleaning.

What Are Your Fears?

Getting your fears out and voicing them allows you to take your power back and see that they aren’t so scary. For Mandy, she had an experience a few years back hiring someone who was older than her who people assumed was the boss. This employee ended up stealing customers from her and it was a really negative experience for her. One of her fears is that the same thing will happen again. By airing your fears and telling yourself you’re willing to push through the worst-case scenario to get out of cleaning, you can start to get a lot of leverage over them. You can also work through those fears by telling yourself you aren’t going to let them keep you from growing the business you want. That you aren’t going to let another 10 years pass by doing something you don’t want to do not making the money you want to make.

Hire an Expert or Change Your Mindset

As far as what to actually do first when getting out of cleaning, you need to make a list of the reasons you want to get out of cleaning, and a list of the fears you have about getting out of cleaning. Then you go through that list and you either change your mindset around those fears, or you hire someone who can do it better than you. If your number one priority is to not step foot into another house and clean again but you have a calendar full of clients, you hire an employee, train them, and then do it again. If you are worried about doing payroll right, hire someone who will do it better than you can. As you hire out these things to experts, it will free up your time, it will help your business run smoothly, and you’ll be able to actually work on your business instead of in your business.

Final Takeaway: The first step to cleaning is to decide you’re done cleaning, the rest falls into place after that one key decision is made.
