Episode 347 – Onboarding Employees Quickly
Today we’re talking with Chris from Completely Clean Home!
Chris started his cleaning company alongside his wife about a year ago and is asking, how does he onboard employees quickly?
Chris wants to follow these three steps to successfully hire employees and grow his cleaning company.
The first step is to make sure he’s getting the right people through the door. The goal isn’t to hire ten C+ employees. You want to hire A+ employees as soon as possible. Each employee needs to match the core values of your cleaning company. As I say, hire for core values, train for skill. This creates a community of employees that other, likeminded employees will be attracted to. The same reflection can be seen in your customers.
The second step is to hire double what you think you need. If you want to hire ten new employees, bring on twenty. This leaves room for error if a few employees quit at the same time or any other issues arise. It’s important that you don’t start any of these employees at forty hours. Everybody should start at around 15-20 hours per week.
The third step is to create a system that makes them feel special and connects to your core values. For example, having shirts made with their name on it for their first day or using picture ID’s. These small actions make them feel like they are part of a community. The way you start your relationship with your employees is what they will anticipate of you, from here on out.
The last step is to create a checklist that you’ll use to check their work. For example, toilets cleaned, carpets vacuumed, counters wiped down etc. You’ll first have an employee clean and then walk through the checklist with them as you check their work. Then, you’ll have that employee check somebody else. During each shift, they’ll be checking other employees work so that every employee checks every employees cleaning at one point or another. Now you’ve created a system where every single employee is capable of training new employees and checking that they are working by the core values of your company.
