Motivating Employees

It starts before you hire. Where you want to start is when you’re advertizing, or actually even before that.

Trying to get people excited and motivated to things they don’t want to do that you are excited and passionate about is a fool’s errand.

The foundational key to success is instead of finding people who don’t share your core values, your basic key beliefs, is to attract people who already share those key beliefs and have them do something they already want to do.

You need to know your core values. You can’t live them, share them and breathe them if you don’t know what they are.

Step one know what you believe and why it is important to you.

Break them down into repeatable, scalable and communicable pieces.

Keeping families, safe, serving the community etc…

Once you know your core values, you can go about attracting those employees that share those same core values.

So in Sarah’s case, if her core value is protecting family time, and keeping babies healthy, her ads could say “looking for people looking to protect families and keeping babies safe from harmful chemicals or cleaning”.

Employees that share that passion are absolutely going to respond to that, and more importantly the ones that just don’t care or get it, don’t apply.

Further down the road when a problem arises with a customer, and they are angry, you can go to your employees and say “hey we didn’t serve these people and protect them well” and fixing the problem is encouraging them to adhere to the core values they were attracted to in the first place.
