Episode 1183 –Is Lack of Business Knowledge What’s REALLY Holding You Back from Success?
Breaking Through the Fear: What's Really Holding You Back
In today’s podcast, Mike Campion teams up with mindset expert Suzanne Bandick to talk about a sneaky problem that holds back cleaning business owners: it’s not just knowing what to do, but dealing with the hidden fears and beliefs that stop them from doing it. Mike’s seen it time and again—people get stuck, thinking they’re not good enough, not smart enough, or just “a cleaner.” They think success is out of reach, but the truth is, it’s their beliefs, not their abilities, that hold them back.
Knowing What to Do Isn’t the Problem
Mike kicked things off by saying that most people think they’re just missing the “how.” But it’s not about knowing the steps—it’s about believing you’re capable of doing them. He jokes that if you followed every step Elon Musk took, you’d be just as successful. So, why doesn’t everyone become the next Elon? It’s because deep down, people are telling themselves, “I’m not good enough,” or “I don’t deserve success.”
The "Just a Cleaner" Trap
Suzanne chimed in, saying one of the biggest hurdles she sees is the “just a cleaner” mentality. People feel like imposters when they think about growing their business. They wonder, “Who am I to raise prices or hire a team?” But Mike jumped in to remind everyone that this mindset isn’t unique to cleaners. Whether you’re thinking, “I’m just a small business owner” or “I don’t have the right background,” it’s all the same trap. You’re filling in the blank with a limiting belief, and it’s not serving you.
How to Start Feeling Worthy of Success
To tackle this, Suzanne gave three simple steps to help people get out of the “I’m not good enough” mindset. First, she suggested looking at areas of life where you do feel successful, even if it’s not in business. Next, she recommended using “I am” statements, like “I am capable” or “I am deserving of success,” to start training your brain to believe the positive instead of the negative. Lastly, she advised surrounding yourself with people who are great at what you’re not. And remember, no one’s perfect—so give yourself some grace!
Visualizing Success
Both Mike and Suzanne agreed: you’ll either visualize your failure or your success, so why not do it on purpose? Mike pointed out that people already spend time worrying about things that haven’t happened yet, so why not flip the script and imagine positive outcomes? It’s not about working harder—it’s about thinking differently and believing you deserve to win.
In the end, it’s about rewiring how you think and embracing your strengths. After all, success isn’t reserved for just the Elon Musks of the world—it’s for anyone who’s willing to shift their mindset.
