How to Start a Cleaning Business
Today Mike is coaching Carla Shiavo of Back to Basics Green Clean. Carla, like so many other owners of cleaning companies, is stuck cleaning accounts instead of running her company because she’s afraid her current customers will cancel or complain if she puts her employees on those accounts. You can check out Carla’s company at www.b2bgreenclean.com .

You need to know How to Start a Cleaning Business to set the right foundation.

Carla, Like so many other owners of cleaning companies, is stuck cleaning accounts instead of running her company because she’s afraid her current customers will cancel or complain if she puts her employees on those accounts.

We hear this a lot at Grow My Cleaning Company and the first line of defense is making a mind-shift.

The major shift is if you keep cleaning these accounts, all of your dreams of building your business are out the window.

BONUS TIP: Associate more pain with losing your dream than with current customers complaining that you aren’t cleaning their accounts.

A simplest and easiest way to notify all the accounts you are cleaning is to send a letter to your customers stating that as of a specific date, you will no longer be cleaning.

You can let them know it is because you will be upgrading your service with systems, more people, etc..But this is all part of How to Start a Cleaning Business.

Currently, because you are only one person, if you get sick, your car breaks down, have a sick kid, those accounts don’t get cleaned. With you running your business, and employees servicing those accounts, those customers will get better, more reliable service.

BONUS TIP: Be ok with customers quitting if you stop personally servicing those accounts.

Even if all your customers quit, you can focus all your time on attracting new clients who are on board with your cleaners, with you running a legitimate business full time, and not in your spare time after you’ve exhausted yourself cleaning all day.

The second mindshift has to do with the profitability of those accounts.

Carla’s hang up with if she stop servicing those accounts, they won’t be profitable anymore after paying someone to service them.

Let’s let that reality sink in for a while…because that concept is key to running a business. If you are doing work that isn’t profitable, the best thing that can happen is those accounts going away!!

If you are cleaning, it doesn’t matter how good you clean, you aren’t earning more than 20$ an hour.

But if you are not cleaning and you are running your business, going out and getting accounts and let’s say that account generates about $7,500 a year and it took you an hour to get that account. That’s $7,500/hr work!

Finally, all good things must come to an end. Carla shares her experience with cleaning nation in the Lightning round
First – You don’t know shit about shit
