Episode 341 – How to Make Your Business Goals a Reality

Today we’re talking with Michelle Berberich from Peachy Clean!

Michelle is wondering how can she set her goals to expand her business? She’s also curious, how do you niche down when you live in a rural area with limited cleaning opportunities?

One of the most common problems I encounter with cleaning company owners is in their goals. Most of them haven’t even sat down and asked themselves, “What are my goals?” Without clear defined goals for the upcoming months and year, your cleaning company can’t create tangible milestones.

To set your goals to expand your cleaning business, ask yourself, “What kind of business do you need that will create the life you want?”. Answer in terms of your net profits. For example, let’s say you want to make $55,000 in net profit per year. With an average 20% profit margin, you need to bring in $275,000 in revenue per year.

The next step in setting your goals is to figure out how much you charge clients on average. For example, if you charge $325 on average per month, you need 75 customers to hit your net profit goal. If you are starting your cleaning company from zero, you need to gain seven clients a month. To be safe, let’s say you need to add ten per month.

Defining your goal gives you the ability to work backwards and figure out what you need to do to get there.

For Michelle’s second question, we have to possible options.

The first option when living in a rural area without a lot of clientele is to expand into other areas. This is the common, most often pursued path.

The second options is to add more services to your niche. Since your clients already trust you to clean their house, they’ll trust you to clean their car or their carpets too. Examples of services are pool cleaning, landscaping and pet stain removal.
