Episode 707 – How to Get What You Want Even Without Support

Today on the podcast, we have ambitious and bright, Katie Reynolds. Katie started her cleaning business back in 2019 when she had one child and then had her second child three weeks before the world shut down with Covd. Since then, she struggled to find the balance between advocating for the business she is trying to grow while also making sure she has child care and things taken care of at home. Today we’ll talk about how you can strike that balance and how the way you think about yourself and your business can make all the difference to propel you in a forward direction. This episode is so relatable!

Why Mindset is Always the Best First Question:

We can talk about systems and details all day-should i do residential or business? Should I do sub-contracted or direct contracts? Should I start hiring now or wait until I’m bigger? But if you haven’t figured out your mindset around what you ultimately want in your business and for yourself, your wheels are going to keep spinning in indecision.

How to Take Your Power Back

When you depend on others to be happy, you are giving them all of your power. When you decide that you won’t be able to do what you want until they give you permission, you are powerless to create what you want. This is the case for anyone you depend on emotionally be it your spouse or any other loved one involved in your life.

Once you realize you don’t want to wait around for others to give you permission to be who you want to be or do what you want to do, you free yourself to be able to build the business/life/happiness you want for YOURSELF! Make a request, see where it goes. If it doesn’t go the way you want it to, you’ll know where your loved one stands and where you want to stand yourself. Then you’ll find a way to make it happen on your own. It’s as easy as that.

And it will feel good to you and you’ll actually be much happier before you are advocating for yourself instead of resenting those around you for not giving you what you think you want or need from them.

Let’s Review How to Handle A loved One Who is Less Supportive Than You Hoped

The first, last and most important thing you want to do in this situation is to approach it without judgement. It can be really easy to say, my partner is flawed in this way and this way and this way, and if they were only different, everything would be so much easier for me. But the truth is that we ALL are flawed. And the strongest relationships come out of a partnership that can recognize that we are both flawed but we are going to choose commitment and love anyway.

Final Takeaway:

You take your power back when you decide that you aren’t going to depend on anyone to feel or act a certain way before you can begin to run the business you want to run. Instead you are going to figure out what they are willing to contribute and get the rest supported by alternative methods. This will help your relationship with them and with yourself.
