Episode 803 – How to Diagnose Your Facebook Ads

Hi Clean Nation! Welcome to the podcast! Today, we have our own in-house marketer Jered Robinson here with Mike to chat about Facebook. It’s easy to say that you have tried Facebook and that it just doesn’t work, but the thing about Facebook is it takes some expertise to do it right. Jered talks on the podcast about common mistakes he sees made by clients who don’t understand how to use it correctly and what they can be doing instead.

Give Up Too Easily

One common mistake Jered sees our clients make is that they up too easily. They go to the trouble to set up their Facebook business manager, they create the ads, create the copy, and start the ads off with a little bit of money. Then, they sit by their phone and wait for it to ring. When it doesn’t, they’re frustrated that they did all that work for nothing and decide Facebook must not work. But the truth is, Facebook is more complex than that. It takes more work, more tweaking, and more expertise. So we try to teach our clie nts who to get the most out of their money and how to use it most effectively.

The Data That Matters on Facebook

Facebook gives you a LOT of data on your Business manager account. It can be overwhelming to know what numbers you should pay attention to. Let’s break it down into two main stats, your CTR all, and your CTR click-through.

Your CTR all is a data point Facebook tracks for when someone engages with your ad all the way through. Either they like or comment. Ideally, you want this number to be at about 2%. There are some targets where this number can be higher, but that is for people who are selling things like travel and can post a photo of a beautiful beach which is just by default going to get more engagement than a cleaning ad. That and your target is just always going to be smaller than something like travel where everyone engages. So 2% is where you want your CTR all.

Your CTR click through rate should be half of your CTR all. So if your CTR all is 2%, your click through rate would typically be 1%. These numbers are super helpful to know whether or not your ad is effective. Whether or not you’re getting action leads from the ad. That has more to do with your website than your ads.

Finding the Kink if Your Hose

Another common mistake Jered sees people make is that when people click through to their website and don’t take any action, they assume it’s the ad, not the website itself. An ad is only as effective as the website it takes you to. If they click on your website and it’s boring, doesn’t have a clear or compelling call to action, or isn’t clear, that’s where the issue is, not with the ad. It’s really important that you go through each step of the journey and make sure it’s compelling enough to engage with.
