Episode 643 – How to Create a Stable Hiring System for Your Cleaning Company

Welcome Cleaning Nation! I am super excited to have the lovely Ashley Sanchez, operations manager of Zia Building Maintenance. This company has been in Ashley’s family for twenty years and Ashley joined four years ago. Today Ashely’s big question is on creating a stable hiring funnel.

Expectations for Hiring Funnels

So many people come to hiring as a problem solution. An important step about creating a hiring funnel is to create it before you need it. Patience is key with a hiring funnel because it can take about 3-4 weeks to find a good hire. Sometimes you will get a couple groups of applicants but none of them are what you are looking for. A way to mitigate this is to create a system that is going to pre-qualify people before they even get to you.

Stop Competing with Money

Today it can be more difficult to hire and one of the top things you can do to find the right people is to set up your core values. You can try to hire people with logic all you want but at the end of the day, people want to be seen. Imagine that everyone has a sign on their forehead that says “make me feel important”. When you show people you value them they will work harder and you will get a team of employees. Not only this, but your community will change and people will love coming to work. Instead of competing with the market by paying more money, focus on making people happy. You will find the best employees and have a much lower turnover rate.

Be Willing to Invest

One of our favorite ways to find employees is by emailing and word of mouth but that only goes so far. Even though we have that avenue we are constantly testing sites like Indeed. There are a bunch of ways to build traffic and it is important to test them all. This includes Facebook Ads. Even though it is paid traffic, it can pay off much more in the long run.

Be Authentic

Being authentic not only in your ads but in the interview process is super important. People can tell when you are lying or if you don’t believe what you say. When you find your core values authenticity will come naturally because they are based on who you are and what kind of environment you want your company to have. Your core values will attract people who believe in the same things you do, therefore narrowing down the amount of bad applicants and growing the amount of good applicants that come to you.
