Today on the podcast, we have Mike talking to our outstanding mindset coach Tracey Thompson. Tracey is such a fantastic asset to us at Grow My Cleaning Company that Mike wanted to have her on today to talk about what she wishes she could say if she had more time with you to chat. There are things she sees clients do over and over again- to their detriment- that if tweaked could make their lives and businesses run so much smoother. Listen in to avoid making these same mistakes and really get some forward momentum in your business.
The first thing Tracey sees over and over is people playing it safe. We are taught as a society not to take risks, so it is a paradigm shift to step out of that comfort zone, but it is where all the growth lies. Mike shares a story about when he sold his first business that was profitable and had recently bought his car dealership and was trying to buy a house. And though he had previous W2s and bank statements showing he made plenty of money to buy a house and excellent credit, the bank was more willing to loan money to his employees making 40k a year than him because he was a ‘risk’ within unsteady income. The truth is, he was in a much more stable position to be able to pay his mortgage, but because banks follow the traditional wisdom of ‘low risk’, it makes it much more difficult for someone who is making lots of money in a less traditional job to get a loan.
So many of our clients come to us with a lot of pain. They start a business to get more time and money and they have less of both. But they want to get wildly different results by making very minor changes. When they start to dive into our program and realize that the things we ask them to do are hard, uncomfortable, and not always sexy or exciting, they start to make excuses for why this isn’t going to work for them and THEIR employees and THEIR clients. But the truth is, so much of running a successful business isn’t sexy or totally revolutionary. It’s taking foundational things, putting them with consistency, and building systems and processes around those. For Mike, it breaks his heart when he sees people who are so close to having when they set out to have but miss it by just a little bit because they aren’t willing to put in that consistent work day after day, week after week to build a sustainable, self-running business.
