Episode 419 – Hire Cleaners WithOUT Enough Cleaning Jobs?

One of the biggest cycles that some owners of cleaning companies fall into is the cycle of not wanting to/not being able to afford employees, and the growth of your company being stunted by not being able to take on new work. Today Mike and Nathalie are covering why it’s not only important to hire employees but to hire the right employees. One of the main reasons Mike does this is to help people own a cleaning company, rather than getting stuck with a cleaning job.

The most important concept that you have to follow when switching from cleaning yourself to having employees is commitment. Mike and Nathalie have spoken to many of you who have been cleaning for so long that it has gotten to the point of physical pain, or to where you mentally can not handle cleaning by yourself anymore. While it may be easier in the beginning, it is not only not sustainable but also can start to really affect your personal life. Being thoroughly committed to changing is the only way that it will actually happen.

Let’s jump into a false concept that Mike hears on a regular basis- ‘MY city doesn’t have any good cleaners’. Mike has spoken with people from all over the world, and he has heard this many different times from many different people, and the fact of the matter is that 99% of the time people are just looking for something to blame. If you have the right systems in place, you’ll find that the hiring process doesn’t have to be as scary as you think it is.

Another false concept that Mike hears on a consistent basis is that your company can’t afford to hire employees, while in reality is that you either need more profit, or more accounts. It’s not that you can’t afford to hire, chances are that your business is profitable but too small. Mike teaches a 20% profit, so if your revenue is only $5,000 total, then 20% of that is $1,000. If that is not enough, it not that you’re not profitable, it’s that you need a bigger business to sustain your income needs.

Another issue that a lot of cleaning company owners run into, is bidding too low. It’s easier to charge less when you make most of the profits, but it hinders your ability to grow, as you have a set amount of hour in your day that you alone can dedicate to cleaning. A better alternative is to cater to your niche’s pain, and provide a great service, that is worth more to your clients.

The last false belief that we’re going to tackle, is the belief that no one else can clean like you can. Mike has heard this countless times, and in terms of growing a business, it can really hinder you. Even if it were true, and you we’re the best cleaner in the world, what’s much more important is that you have a scalable, dependable result first and foremost.
