Episode 1278 – Feeling Stuck? Ready to Grow Without Burning Out?

In this episode, Mike Campion and Lindsay Bjorklund answer real questions from owners like you — including how to scale without losing your sanity. They break down why picking the right clients matters more than picking more clients, and why hiring without a solid plan leads to chaos. You’ll learn the difference between running a business and just owning a job, plus how to raise prices the smart way. If you’re ready to work less, earn more, and finally breathe, this one’s for you. Let’s build a business you love, not one you want to escape from.

Growing Without Going Crazy

In this episode, Mike Campion and Lindsay Bjorklund tackle a question from “Sparkle,” a cleaning business owner who’s overwhelmed with work and thinking about hiring more help. She’s juggling clients, two kids, and only two assistants. Mike jumps in to say: Before you hire anyone, let’s first figure out what your real goals are. Do you want more money? More time? Less stress? If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you lost — or burnt out.

Pick the Right Clients

Mike points out that not all clients are created equal. Sparkle’s working with Airbnb hosts and post-construction cleanups — both of which bring chaos. Airbnb clients are unpredictable, and post-construction jobs? A total rollercoaster. Mike’s advice: Choose the kind of client who gets you closer to your goal. If you want peace and profit, think about regular residential clients you can count on. You’re building a business, not surviving a circus.

Don’t Just Hire — Plan First

Hiring more help might sound like the fix, but Mike warns that if your business is already messy, hiring will just create bigger messes. Before growing your team, create clear systems and roles. Otherwise, you’re just adding more people to your chaos. Imagine hiring more chickens to run around with their heads cut off — that’s not help, that’s mayhem!

Know the Difference: Job vs. Business

Lana, another listener, asks about raising prices on clients who live far away. Mike’s response? Decide if you want a cleaning job or a cleaning business. If you’re the one driving and cleaning, every mile matters. If you’re building a business with a team, location matters less — just get the right people in place. Charge fairly, be honest, and if a client no longer fits, it’s okay to part ways.

Don’t Stay Stuck — Make a Move!

Mike ends with a strong message: Thinking about change isn’t enough — do something different. Whether it’s setting new goals, picking better clients, or raising prices, the only way to grow (without burnout) is to take action. Don’t keep doing the same thing and expect a better result. Want a different life? You’ve got to make different choices.
