Episode 202 – Commercial Cleaning Systems

Commercial Cleaning Systems- Episode 202 Fredo Derazin – Bel Cleaning Services
Today Mike Coaches Fredo Derazin on commercial cleaning systems and employees. Fredo started Bel Cleaning Services just 5 months ago and he has already put some commercial cleaning systems in place and hired 10 cleaners. The problem is, he can’t get them to follow company systems and procedures.

The first step is to clearly communicate your commercial cleaning systems with your employees. Once you are confident you are communicating effectively, there are a couple of things to keep in mind to get your employees to buy in to what you are trying to do and the way you are doing it.

Your employees aren’t insane. They have a reason for doing it their own way. In their mind, you and your cleaning systems are stupid, and they are smart. They may not communicate that with you- but often, that is where they are coming from.

KEY POINT: Your employees have reasons for NOT following your commercial cleaning systems- find out what they are
With this understanding, you have a couple of options:

Option #1- Yell, throw things, and fire everyone who doesn’t get on board. This can be effective but it is a stressful way to live and makes it very hard to create a team or community mindset

Option #2- Ask them why they aren’t following your systems. Get feedback. More often than not, they are going to give you reasons that don’t help. Every now and again, they will give you a good idea and the opportunity to improve your commercial cleaning systems. Either way, you will be closer to getting buy in. Giving your team a voice and letting them know that you are listening will improve how well they follow your systems.

Once you are confident you are communicating clearly what needs to be done and given your employees a voice/ listened to their feedback, it’s time for your secret weapon. Core Values. A good “employee handbook” or set of systems will only get you so far. For your employees to really care about the company and what you are trying to accomplish- you need a Core Values match.

RESOURCE ALERT: Get more in-depth conversion about core beliefs HERE
When your employees are attracted by something deeper than a paycheck you can tap into more than just a list of do’s and don’ts. When they feel connected to your company and it’s deepest beliefs, they feel like they belong. Like they are a part of something special. They want you company- their community to succeed.

It’s nearly impossible to “convert” people who don’t share your beliefs. Instead, create a hiring process that attracts people that love what you love and repels people who are just there for a paycheck.

Once you are communicating properly, your employees feel heard AND share you and your companies core values, there is one last thing you need to do…

Make it about THEM
Even the BEST employees who love you, your Values and are all around amazing people have a great deal of self interest. Make sure that your company, the position you are offering AND the employee cleaning systems you want them to follow are all focused on how THEIR lives will be better.

The concept of making it about them works for all of your business relationships. Employees, vendors, customers- they all want to know what’s in it for them. How you can bring them value. Focus your communication on answering that question.
