Episode 425 – Cleaning Employees Driving You Crazy?

If you have employees, then chances are that you’ve also had to deal with bad employees, no call no shows, etc. Today Mike is here to talk about some of the steps you can take to find better employees that are passionate about being a part of your community.

If you are of the state of mind that the work that goes into hiring and maintaining employees outweighs the benefits of having them, then you need to first modify your way of thinking. Although it may seem like too much work, having employees not only takes the stress off of you but allows you to work on your business. If you aren’t there to run your business, then no one will be. Without employees, you have a cleaning job, you don’t own cleaning business.

There are two parts to the hiring process. The first is hiring good employees, and the second is how to keep them around. Let’s start with the hiring process. One of the recurring terms you’re going to hear throughout this blog, and throughout a lot of Mikes content, is systems. Having a system in place that keeps applications coming at all times is an essential way to make sure that you have the best staff possible. As for maintaining the staff that you have, one of the biggest misconceptions is that it all comes down to wages. In reality, you want to create a work environment that showcases your core values and attracts people that are like minded. This doesn’t mean that wages don’t matter, or that you can pay your employees next to nothing and expect them to be happy. As for the systems to make your hiring process easier, you’ll want to have something in place to make sorting applications, setting up interviews, etc. systematized. One of the ways you can start this is by starting to hire with group interviews. This helps with the scheduling, as well as having to sort through applications, as you can interview lots of people in a short period of time. Then you’ll need to have a system on how to handle the follow-up interviews, working interviews, etc.

One of the biggest false beliefs that Mike hears on a consistent basis, is that ‘there are no hireable people in my area’. Mike has coached many different people from many different parts of the world, and he has never found this to be the case. Chances are that the system that you’re using isn’t being effective. It may be difficult, but the reality is that if your ads or funnel is bringing in ‘bad’ employees, then it may be time to update it. If you blame external forces for your inability to find quality employees, then you’re going to find yourself stuck with nowhere to grow. As an entrepreneur, your job is to find solutions to problems.
