Episode 838 – Cold Calls are Dead, Do This Instead: Episode 838

Today on the podcast, we have Jackson and Mike talking about one of the most underutilized forms of contact with potential clients-messaging. Why is it that we have moved almost solely to sending texts to everyone we know but are still glorifying cold calling as a form of sales? This episode dives into the power of messaging, how to take advantage of it, and how to use it in your business to meet people where they are- on their phones!

Cold Calls are a Thing of the Past

If the vast majority of people have switched to texting or messaging via platforms like Instagram and Facebook, why are so many of us still trying to cold call potential customers? It just doesn’t make sense. Sending messages has about an 82% read rate and an 80% response rate both by sending text messages and via Facebook or Instagram. Many companies, Grow my Cleaning Company included, have seen much more success with this channel of contact.

Top Recommended Messaging Apps

There are many options you can use to reach out via messaging. The ones Jackson recommends as being most effective are SMS messaging, Instagram, and Facebook messenger. The big advantage of sending SMS messages is that it has almost a 100% delivery rate. As of now, there isn’t really any kind of a spam filter for text so every text you send out is going to be received. The advantage to using Instagram and Facebook is that you don’t need to obtain phone numbers to be able to contact potential clients.

How to Get Started

Once you’ve decided to move forward with this mode of communication, the first step is making sure the option to receive messages is turned on. It may seem obvious, but when Facebook changed its privacy policy a couple of years back, it made it so that you had to physically check the box that said your account is open to receive messages from people. Once you make sure those channels are open, it can be helpful to set up something automated so that those sending messages can get some basic information answered, especially if you aren’t available right away. That way, they’ll still get some communication from you.

How to Take Advantage of Organic Traffic on Facebook

Although paid traffic always has its place on Facebook, it can be tricky and a waste of money if you don’t know what you’re doing. Organic traffic, on the other hand, rewards consistency above quality and the content itself.  For example, if you decided to post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and Facebook see that you are committed to continuing to put content out, they are going to start to show your content to more people. If you take advantage of that momentum by using a call to action often (in this case asking people to reach out via Facebook messager), you can bring people right in front of you for free who are interested in your services.

Final Takeaway: Take advantage of SMS messaging and Facebook and Instagram messaging to find potential clients where they already are.
