Today Mike is talking with Brian Kaup, co-owner of Trinity Cleaning with his wife, in Maursville North Carolina!

What was working and not working in your business before you met Mike?

“I decided to really start my company around Thanksgiving of 2017, but I knew that I there were people out there who were smarter than me, you know a teacher is just a student that is farther along. I started looking for resources when I came across your program, and I was just in the normal program for almost a year. I remember telling my dad about the program, and the different modules, and I was like, wow this is gold. I knew that I could figure everything out on my own eventually, but why waste 2, 5, 10 years when the information is already out there. It’s definitely helped I’ve doubled my business since last year.

What are some of the things that we’ve had you implement that have worked?

“Letting go of some of the non-profitable accounts, and making sure that we get paid before we clean has had a huge impact. Even the way i’m talking about it now it’s sounds negative, but it really is a huge relief. When you have a customer that isn’t making you any money and you’re grinding your gears and putting in all this work for nothing you have to let them go.”

What are the easiest and hardest things that we’ve asked you to do that got results?

“I would say the easiest thing is to come up with goals. I’ve always been a goal-oriented person, it was a bit difficult to cut them down to just the important goals. Writing them down helped me a lot, there’s something about writing them down and tracking and giving them an end date. One of my goals was to be out of the field by February, I think that that was one of the things holding me back, but writing it down really helped with solidifying it and we ended up meeting that goal.

The hardest thing was probably changing the billing, there’s kind of a safety net around things that you already know. Even though it wasn’t perfect, it worked. But man there is some freedom in saying, no, this is my company and people can either accept that or turn to another company that does things that way I used to. I was scared that everyone was going to quit, but there still around. Now I get paid at the beginning of the month and I don’t have to focus on that for the rest of the month, and every month we were still owed thousands of dollars. I’m a social person, and being able to talk and hang out with my clients and employees instead of locking myself behind a desk stressing out about if I’m going to make payroll has been amazing I feel free.”
