Episode 244 – Keeping Your Income Stable While Hiring Employees

How to hire new employees and focus on other aspects of your business
In today’s podcast, we are speaking with Stacy Stewart from The Scrub Company. Stacy has been providing excellent cleaning services to the Fort Collins Colorado area for the past year, and her business continues to grow! The Scrub Company is a part of an incredible ministry that contributes two percent of their sales to Love For Liberia Ministries. Love for Liberia Ministries is located in Africa and is currently helping those in need. Stacy is not only a business owner but a single mom raising ten children on her own! Seven of Stacy’s children live at home with her while the other three live close by. Not only is Stacy a super mom and business woman she is also a part of Mike’s accelerated program.

Stacy is at the point in her business where she can no longer take on any more jobs and needs to hire on staff to account for the growing number of clients she has obtained. Today Mike will guide her in the right direction on how she can keep her income stable while hiring on staff.

Things to keep in mind:

Rewire your mind from hiring employees is going to cost you money to hiring employees is the only way that you are going to have financial stability. Do not have the mindset that if you hire employees, it is going to be a cut in pay! Replace that thinking with the thought that the only way you are going to be financially free is if you do hire a staff. You have to think ahead as an owner that if something were to happen to you such as getting sick or hurt you still have financial obligations in your life that will go on even if you do not have money coming in.

Step One: Make sure that your jobs are profitable

Step Two: Hire one person to work with you

Step Three: Sell more profitable accounts in the time that you are not cleaning

Step Four: Continue hiring more people giving 20-25 hours at a time

First: Before you hire you must make sure that you are bidding your jobs correctly. If you are not charging enough, you will not be able to make the transition from cleaning yourself to having employees clean for you which is the ultimate goal. Who is doing the cleaning has no bearing on how much you are charging your client’s. Assume that all bids are to include the price of an employee cleaning along with all other expenses.

Second: What you can not do is simply stop cleaning and turn everything over to your employees right away. What you can do instead is to delegate half your duties of the cleaning to another employee and begin to sell and acquire more jobs for your new employees! Start off small with the number of staff you are hiring. Hire one person to take on half of the work that you are currently yourself doing, so that you may take that time and focus on other aspects of the business. Once you have obtained one employee and trained them thoroughly, they will then have the knowledge and experience to train the next employee..

Attitude is everything and life is what you make it. If you look at everything as bad it’s going to be bad, if you look at everything as good you are going to get good in return.

Charge enough money upfront from the beginning

What’s one idea cleaning nation can put into practice to improve their business or their lives immediately?

The accelerated program is really really great and has helped me a ton and I have a ton of hope from that. Get your cost of goods sold straightened out right from the beginning on your profit margins and know where your business is at on paper.
