Today we’re talking with Marisol from Royal Pros Cleaning Service!

Marisol’s question is, how can she deal with workers who aren’t putting effort into the job? Her largest problem is having employees leave properties dirty and, unsurprisingly, it is giving her business a bad name.

To prevent having to deal with bad employees, you want to create an automated employee generation system that brings in A+ players. Hiring D- players and hoping to train them to become your cleaning team’s MVP doesn’t work. In order to hire A+ players, you need to use an A+ advertisement.

Good advertisements bring in good employees. Bad advertisements bring in bad employees.

How do you create a good advertisement that attracts A+ employees?

RESOURCE ALERT: Finding and Retaining An Epic Cleaning Staff

Define your business’s core values. Let’s say your core values are to be responsible, honest and display attention to detail.

A bad advertisement for these core values is one that reads, “Fast growth cleaning company looking for hardworking people! Get paid to train, have a great schedule and the opportunity for advancement!” These advertisements are one in a million and attract the type of people who are applying to every and any job they can without focusing on jobs they know they would be good at.

To create a good advertisement, use your core values as the foundation of the wording of your ad.

“Are you the most responsible person you know? If not, stop reading this ad.”

This advertisement immediately closes the ad off to anybody who doesn’t believe themselves to be responsible. Since this person isn’t responsible, you don’t want them on your team. Immediately, you have created an automatic system that only attracts responsible employees.

Once you have created a good advertisement, you want to implement a checklist. For each property, you’ll use a standard checklist with added special requests pertaining to that property. For example, a commercial property will have instructions for the location of the janitor’s closet. A residential property will have a special note about the house cat.

Give the checklist to each employee walking into the house or building to ensure your client is satisfied.

The best way to attract A+ employees is with an A+ advertisement and a checklist that forces accountability.
