Today we talked cleaning service staff  with Travis Robinson from Clean Difference. Clean Difference is   located in Seattle, Washington and provides residential and commercial cleaning services.

Travis got into the cleaning business two years ago, purely by accident. He started off as a restaurant employee. He soon realized the restaurant needed a cleaning company and offered to do the job. After receiving a few paychecks, Travis discovered the hidden potential in the cleaning  industry.

He did his research,and asked other restaurant employees if they were in need of cleaning services. He attracted customers, hired cleaning service staff, and Clean
Difference was born.

Clean Difference serves commercial clients, currently has four cleaning service staff and Travis is looking to hire four more. In growing his company Travis noticed his cleaning service staff wasn’t always open to the changes Travis wanted to make.

Mike explains that the reason cleaning service staff isn’t always on the same page as ownership is a difference in Core Values. If your basic beliefs contradict your team’s core values, push back is guaranteed.

Hiring employees who share your Core Values is the first step. It is far easier to help someone live out what is important to them than to try and get them to believe and be passionate about what you are passionate about.

KEY POINT: Hire cleaning service staff based on their attitude and then train for  skills

Once you have employees who believe what you believe, you can involve and engage them in the decision making process. Your cleaning service staff interacts on a daily basis with your customers and have perspective that can be extremely valuable to you the owner. Ten brains are always better than one.

Ideas from the cleaning service staff may not always be feasible, but employees who feel valued and heard are more likely to be on board with the change. You also want to communicate with your team that you don’t have all of the answers. Business is constantly changing. Nearly everything you do will have some level of trial and error.
